There have been some stretches of this season that have made us Arsenal fans wonder why we dont just switch our allegiance to some big spending team in London, or one of the free flowing continental teams.

And then there are days like Sunday that remind us all why we are Arsenal fans. Beautiful goals from bargain buys. Arsene Wenger is a genius.

-Arshavin is looking more and more like the clever, quick and deliberate attacking midfielder that we have been missing.
-Walcott is back looking fit and quick as ever.
-Vela is a straight up G.
-Fabregas is kicking the ball around again for the first time since Christmas.
-Alexandre Song has always been a good defensive midfielder but I was happy to see him keeping possession of the ball and not giving it away cheaply in the center of the field while everyone is rushing up the flanks to get into the attack.
-Abou Diaby looks like he could probably play any position on the field, including goalie.
-Denilson gets better every time he plays.
-Nasri has been our best player all year.
-Bendtner is starting to make me hate him less all the time.
-Eduardo just has to be healthy to score because he is ice cold when going to goal.
-Eboue finally scored a legit goal!
-Sagna and Clichy are the best pure outside backs in England outside of Bosingwa and Evra. And I still prefer the Sagna and Clichy any day of the week.
-Gallas has calmed down and is back to his old self, concentrating on leading by example.
-Toure finally seems like he has subdued his frustration with Arsenals lack of spending while he watches his brother Yaya enjoy a much easier life at big spending Barcelona.
-Van Persie has the best left foot in the EPL and an ego that won't ever allow him to quit shooting. And according to the most dedicated Arsenal fan I know, he has been our best player all year.
-Adebayor will just be able to do him as soon as these kids grow up. I love that he tries to include everyone but I would like him to become just a bit more selfish.
-Rosicky is going to recover one day
-Djourou has always had the confidence and now he seems to have gained some composure and experience to match
-and with all the young kids coming through with Wilshere and Ramsey, things can only get better the next few years.

Have faith my friends; fourth place is nearly ours, and SAF's transition will lead us to the top of the table.

Argentina should elect Carlos Tevez President

Carlos Tevez may spend more time than necessary on the bench at Manchester United but there is no way he would stand for the shit Argentine president Christina Fernandez is. Argentina is in no way a model of political stability but when the Vice President is throwing salt in the President's game things can't be good.

Why does this matter? It matters because Argentina's president is the wife of former Center Left Wing Peronist Nestor Kirchner. Fernandez was elected with 45% of the vote in a presidential election with more than 10 candidates, which constitutes a mandate in a homogeneous country as far as I am concerned. However, the problem with homogeneous countries with multi-party systems is that political hot shots are always trying to from new coalitions to try and shift the balance of power in their favor.

Argentine Vice President Julio Cobos has been relentlessly striking blows for the California Republicans and free market enthusiasts the world over who refuse to appropriate their principles. In the midst of the global economic crisis Cobos has sided with "free market Hope", which seems even more addictive than even "Dope" itself. While America's legislative branch scurries around to try and bail out every major industry out of "necessity" the California Republicans and Julio Cobos are sticking to their "free market" guns and hoping for the best.

Since July 27, the vice president has not spoken in person or on the phone with Fernandez, said Julio Paz, Cobos' spokesman. Cabinet officials have also shunned the vice president. When there have been official visits abroad and the president could not go, the Foreign Ministry has sent the provisional Senate president, Jose Pampuro, rather than Cobos.

Despite the Kirchners' attempts to put Cobos on ice, he has refused to resign - or to stay silent. He has continued to criticize the president's policies. This month, for instance, he said her decision to nationalize more than $25 billion in private pension funds was premature and would only create more doubts among investors about the stability of Argentina's investment climate.

The criticism drew a biting response from Kirchner, whose idea it was for his wife to make Cobos her running mate. The former president joked publicly that every morning his wife asks him, "What vice president did you stick me with, Nestor?"

If you don't have 10 minutes to throw away then you shouldn't watch this video, but if you do you will understand the question I am asking in the title. Granted, Manchester United have a wealth of options as far as attackers go, but really, how can you leave Tevez on the bench? He responds to weeks of media reports calling his future uncertain at United and he responds with 4 brilliant goals, an assist, and a whole host of other opportunities created for himself and others. This post used to have the 10 minute highlights from that game but of course it "disappeared"... This video is just as good though, don't trip.

I don't agree with a lot of what they say but their conversation is still insightful:

"I would suggest that there are two basic design faults to what we call the peace process, whether that be Oslo or Annapolis or everything in between. One, the two parties have gone about as far as they're going to go to finding solutions in bilateral negotiations. What is left to do--the final points of closure on core issues--is obviously the hardest bit, and I don't think the parties can do that alone, especially not with the current leaderships one both sides. There is almost a perverse incentive at work to postpone hard decisions and to negotiate indefinitely--that is the path of least resistance in terms of domestic politics for Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
Two, the Palestinians are expected to successfully build their own economy, security forces and institutions of governance while in a pre-state condition of pervasive foreign (Israel) occupation that includes an expanding civilian settler population--that needs to be protected by the IDF. The idea is that the Palestinians prove themselves and then Israel makes progress--it has not and cannot work that way.
So both sides are struck. The process suffers from the laws of diminishing returns as we keep trying this failed and flawed method and it does no favors to Israel as it creates circumstances in which we are unable to extract ourselves from a predicament which severely damages our interests. I would suggest that what we need now is effective external intervention to break this impasse, and realistically this would have to be U.S.-led. "

It’s both. There has been an emphasis on fighting the Taliban, which has led us into operations (both air and ground-based) that do a lot of damage but do not make people feel safer. Similarly, we have a lot of troops in rural areas—small outposts—positioned there because it’s easier to bring firepower to bear on the enemy out in these areas. Meanwhile, the population in major towns and villages is vulnerable because we are off elsewhere chasing the enemy main-force guerrillas, allowing terrorist and insurgent cells based in the populated areas to intimidate people where they live. As an example, eighty per cent of people in the southern half of Afghanistan live in one of two places: Kandahar city, or Lashkar Gah city. If we were to focus on living amongst these people and protecting them, on an intimate basis 24/7, just in those two areas, we would not need markedly more ground troops than we have now (in fact, we could probably do it with current force levels). We could use Afghan National Army and police, with mentors and support from us, as well as Special Forces teams, to secure the other major population centers. That, rather than chasing the enemy, is the key.

Police are another main issue. We have built the Afghan police into a less well-armed, less well-trained version of the Army and launched them into operations against the insurgents. Meanwhile, nobody is doing the job of actual policing—rule of law, keeping the population safe from all comers (including friendly fire and coalition operations), providing justice and dispute resolution, and civil and criminal law enforcement. As a consequence, the Taliban have stepped into this gap; they currently run thirteen law courts across the south, and ninety-five per cent of the work of these courts is civil law, property disputes, criminal matters, water and grazing disuptes, inheritances etc.—basic governance things that the police and judiciary ought to be doing, but instead they’re out in the countryside chasing bad guys. Where governance does exist, it is seen as corrupt or exploitative, in many cases, whereas the people remember the Taliban as cruel but not as corrupt. They remember they felt safer back then. The Taliban are doing the things we ought to be doing because we are off chasing them instead of keeping our eye on the prize—securing and governing the people in a way that meets their needs.

As the country desperately tries to reach toward the future with the hope of maintaining the lofty expectations we have always had for America our political parties remain bogged down by their outdated platforms and the contempt that they show for their constituents.

The problem with the political system in America is that it mirrors our professional sports leagues, Hollywood and all of our innovative industries. Politics should be about helping people, sports should be about entertaining spectators while having fun, acting and film making should be made for art or politics sake, and innovative industries should be primarily concerned with improving people's quality of life. However, each of these has become more about the maintenance of power and, needless to say, making "money money and going shopping..."

Over time political power has generally been thought to come from the barrel of a gun but as the times change so does the precipice of power. In the early 80's the conservatives had an easy target to shoot down in Jimmy Carter because he provided a classic example of a liberal wuss that was too nice to be in charge of anything other than Habitat for Humanity, and even they sent me free personalized name and address stickers "in the spirit of giving" hoping that I might send money back. Yeah, let me get right on that.

So Reagen exploited that void of "balls" in the white house by promising to get 'the dopers", aka Afro-Americans, off America's streets and into America's jails for 5 years to life at a time. Being a legitimate cowboy movie star and the governor of one the richest, and most hated/envied states in the nation didn't hurt either. Bush 41 could have held on to that power had he resisted the temptation to over tax the fiscally conservative constituents who buoyed Republican party membership in the 80's. Then a distraction by the name of Ross Perot came along with his fiscally conservative, isolationist song and dance. Cue Bill Clinton...

Bill Clinton was not a bad president, but he wasn't my favorite either. Just try not to allow the health of your 401k in the 90's cloud your view of the president who orchestrated the Coup of Arisitide, who received over 80% of the Haiti's popular vote, and let a vicious military dictator run roughshod on the island while he sat in the oval office and fingered ugly interns. He also managed to do away with welfare and affirmative action while filling that affable, trustworthy, "seems smarter than me (but not by too much)" presidential role that Jimmy Carter made famous while Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove switched their style up to show President Clinton and the democrats "who was really who and what was really what."

Newt circulated his political action plan around the country like wildfire, supporting the candidacies of anyone who was willing to assume the guise of a social and fiscal conservative. All the while Karl Rove was perfecting the micro targeting strategies that would unearth the conservatives who didn't understand the full breadth of the role they would play in this new conservative movement. This expansion of the conservative base was no accident. Since the conservative platform is exclusionary by design and therefore unlikely to produce as many natural constituents as a party designed in the interests of the working class/masses.

So President Clinton was sitting at the apex of power without any power because he fell victim not to the barrel of a gun but to an "overwhelming narrative" about how America lacked family values and there were gays hiding out in the military and blah blah blah. And so continued his rush to the center to maintain political relevancy with both houses controlled by the conservatives and their "overwhelming narrative". Which worked for him because America loves a big personality no matter where he stands on the issues. This theory still proves true in California where a staunchly democratic population has little difficulty living under republican Governors and the current Governator. Clinton's lack of a coherent strategy to deal with the Monica Lewinsky debacle essentially opened the door for Bush 43 to run on the movement's Christian family values, national security and fiscal responsibility.

The problem was that the Conservative party didn't actually represent that diverse of a set of interests. The rich ones just fooled the religious ones into thinking that they did. They even fooled some of the black religious conservatives, Latinos and more Pro-Life Catholics than I think would like to admit it. The hard partying fiscal conservatives were never really outed as the coke snorting, big spending, adulterous, wall street day trader douche bags they are. They kept their mouths shut because they didn't want to pay any more to make their money than they would have to if they could get one of their buddies (like GWB) to become the president. So how could the 1% of the population that I am talking about get a majority of the electorate to support positions that will benefit about 3% of the population?

You lie, blame, cheat, steal, swindle, hoowink, and run the people amuck. And eventually you get caught.

Bush 43 and the wealth of information available at a moment's notice on the internet exposed the latest (last 25 years) conservative movement for exactly what it was; a fraud.

-Republicans tried to claim they would be fiscally responsible and ran up unimaginable debt.

-They tried to claim we would be nationally secure and the twin towers got knocked down and avian flu broke in.

-They said they would keep government out of our lives and then they produced and passed the Patriot Act.

-They said the Iraq war would pay for itself and we would find weapons of mass destruction, and instead oil went from $30 a barrel to $140+ (now back down to $60 btw) and there were no WMD's to be found; just some sand and an apparently very good national soccer team.

-They tried to split America up by claiming that coastal states were elitists and not real Americans, then were surprised when Americans became reluctant to interact/coexist with one another.

Somewhere between the Dollar Menu becoming a big night out, US Housing prices falling to levels lower than the Ukraine, and the Euro making the dollar look like a Rupee, the American people figured out that we can't expect to do a brilliant job running the world if we can't even run our own country.

Cue Barack Obama or ass Young Jeezy would say "Barack O'Drama" - with his "hope" n'shit...

So as the republicans meet this week to discuss the future of their party I really do wish them all the best. I just don't know how they plan to reconcile such a fractured group. Bobby Jindal and Charlie Crist should just have their own conference and not tell anyone else where it is going to be. Then maybe they will have a chance to get all the loony tunes out of their prominent roles and at least get a model of republicanism out there that somebody could believe in again. If for nothing else than to give the democrats a run for their money...

Because if there is one thing that never changes it is that politicians can't be trusted as long as they are in the business of maintaining power.

I'm going to try to sound as un-Olbermann like as possible:

Here's my beef with the upcoming American Auto Industry Bailout - The writing on the wall pointing to higher prices for oil has been known for decades now. With wages (adjusted for inflation) of American workers remaining roughly static for the past 10 years, any auto exec worth his lick could see that Americans would be incapable of absorbing progressively higher gas prices in the years to come. The prudent exec would have directed his auto company to invest heavily in hybrid technology; in smaller, lighter cars and ultimately much more fuel efficient cars. While true this would have not produced immediate results (profits) during the 1990's, think of how much Toyota-ass Ford would be kicking right now if they had a lineup of 7 different sedans and coupes achieving 60-70 mpg.

Unfortunately, in the 90's American auto exec's focused all of their companies' energies towards producing ever larger and less fuel efficient SUV's, sacrificing future competitiveness for immediate gains. And who could blame them? The accepted, universal structure for corporate executive pay in America is based upon immediate results - How much has the company's stock price increased in value since you've become CEO? Sold a trillion Ford Expeditions and Explorers in the past 3 years? Awesome! You get an enormous bonus. How will the company fare in 10 years because of your strategic decisions? Who fucking cares, you won't be here and neither will I.

And that's the problem. All those auto exec's who made tens and hundreds of millions of dollars in the 90's set their companies up for the financial bankruptcy they are now experiencing. I mean American auto makers have been making inferior products for years, the problem now is they make inferior, outdated products. So now they are headed for financial collapse, but no need to be alarmed, for you and I will be bailing them out with our income taxes. Still want to buy American?

So here's the deal - How do we restructure executive compensation so that it reflects sound decision making that yields future dividends as opposed to the current structure that rewards immediate gains while the future be damned?

Haiti is a place where the people in charge do not care about the people who live there and get away with it. Countless people are born and die in Haiti without ever learning to read, write, see a doctor or a dentist and it is accepted by the masses. The masses of people choose not to care about what is happening to the innocent people; the innocent people who are the true victims of this global financial crisis.

I was playing soccer with someone (friend #1)this weekend in Orange County (aka the most conservative county in California) who was very adamant about two things; that living under socialism would be akin to slavery and that capitalism NEEDS poor people so that (his family can stay rich) there can be rich people. To which my other friend (#2 - a fiscal conservative who manages wealth and day trades for a very reputable but recently purchased financial company) replied, "Hey man, I'm no socialist but you can't have old people out on the street without any insurance because their retirement money disappeared one day, that just isn't right."

That snippet of our conversation proves what I have always said it would take to make the eradication of poverty a central political issue in the United States; Upper class people, middle class people, and White people seeing themselves, their grandparents, or their colleagues and friends living on the streets because of "circumstances beyond their control." You know, those Fannie and Freddie Mother Fuckers right. Thats real shit though, because the only reason MOST black people vote democratic is because they themselves or someone they know very well is suffering because of "circumstances beyond their control", and they cant ignore their needs.

But if you ask friend #1, he would blame all those "poor people" who thought they should be able to have/pay their own mortgages instead of sending rent checks to someone who was using their hard earned minimum wage money to pay 5 mortgages of their own. And I shouldn't have to remind anyone reading this that we have a guy running for president who blanked when asked how many homes he owned.

BTW Mr McCain, I know exactly how many pairs of socks I own, how many houses i don't own, and how many apple cinnamon oatmeal packets i have left in the cupboard you "too rich for your own good -out of touch mother fucker"!

In other news, I hope the Obama campaign can keep it up. I swear they could sell Ice to Eskimos. They just have to keep it up a little longer. Then he can morph back into the "undercover socialist that he really must be if he associates with William Ayers." Of course that was another brilliant quote from friend #1 again. When he tried to worry me with that scary image I informed him that Obama may be one of the most conservative and realistic Black political minds out there and he was nowhere near as radical as most of the black people I know. So what he was failing to realize is that black people wouldn't be taking over America if Obama gets elected, but they would sure as hell feel like their perspective was included in the decision making process and be much more likely to believe in and support the national agenda.

I also reminded friend#1 that he associates with me, and Rush Limbaugh would be very disappointed to know the breadth of what i have read and what i actually think as compared to what he thinks and may/or may not have actually read.

Therefore his association and continued friendship with me disqualified him to vote in my opinion. I mean how can America trust someone who would associate with a socially liberal , left leaning, Haitian-American like myself. And then I called him a commie traitor...

The last two things on my Agenda are "Chocolate News" and "DL Hughley Breaks the News". Two funny guys who I have laughed at in the past and respect as entertainers have been hoodwinked, run amuck, bamboozled and run astray.
Did they not know that these lame attempts from television stations owned and operated by the Man were just a clever ruse to irritate intelligent black people and fire up racist white people???

Those are 2 shows I could laugh at if it didn't give me anxiety to think about conservatives and white people watching it because there are only a couple of things that could happen next:

1. the ones who were voting for obama are reminded that black people are not all so "well spoken" and calm.

2. the ones who were going to stay home because of their distaste for McCain will go vote against Obama to keep black comedians from getting shows on CNN before white comedians.

3. the ones who think the liberal media is out to dismantle white America will even more fuel to add to the fire when they send tawdry mass emails about Obama to their kinfolk

I mean I love to see black people on TV and Making money, but at what cost to Barack Obama and black people in general?

I'm sorry but I couldn't resist posting the link to the fox news story on Colin Powell's pending endorsement. This is a guy who has been a "God Bless America and our Military too" guy since day one. I know conservatives and post modernists will chastise me for bitching about fox news' blatant racist antics. But did they really have to blend the story about Powell attending a Hip Hop event and his endorsement of the black presidential candidate? Is it not saying to white people that now that Obama is ahead in most polls even reliable black conservatives will be swayed enough by Obama's race alone to vote for him. As if that were Powell's (or any other educated black person's) only reason to vote for Obama.

I mean Hip Hop goes with Obama like peanut butter goes with jelly, and shucking goes with jiving; right? Maybe he is upset about the way he was scapegoated by the Bush Administration, maybe he is still secretly angry that Dick(head) Cheney kept Powell out of the VP spot in some secret back room deal, OR maybe he doesn't want his legacy to be attached to a stubborn refusal to cede his loyalty to an unpopular president/party the first time a "brother" actually has a real chance to become the president.

The tone of the article's title and pictures basically said to the "faux news" audience, "Hey, remember that Negro that we used to parade around the world to prove our military industrial complex wasn't steeped in white supremacist philosophies, yeah well, that nigger is endorsing the Barack Obama/50 Cent ticket. Greenspan Blames Krugman For Sluggish Economy

Washington (IWR Satire) - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan today put the blame for the U.S. recession squarely on the shoulders of New York Times columnist Paul Krugman.

"The blame for the current recession that began in 2001 should not be placed on the failed policies of the Bush Administration. Instead, that dubious honor should go to that liberal economist Paul Krugman and his bad attitude.

Krugman has been warning about the dangers of the housing bubble for years, and the terrible toll it could take on the economy when it pops. Here is a Krugman warning from August 29, 2005:

These days Mr. Greenspan expresses concern about the financial risks created by "the prevalence of interest-only loans and the introduction of more-exotic forms of adjustable-rate mortgages." But last year he encouraged families to take on those very risks, touting the advantages of adjustable-rate mortgages and declaring that "American consumers might benefit if lenders provided greater mortgage product alternatives to the traditional fixed-rate mortgage.

If Mr. Greenspan had said two years ago what he's saying now, people might have borrowed less and bought more wisely. But he didn't, and now it's too late. There are signs that the housing market either has peaked already or soon will. And it will be up to Mr. Greenspan's successor to manage the bubble's aftermath.

How bad will that aftermath be? The U.S. economy is currently suffering from twin imbalances. On one side, domestic spending is swollen by the housing bubble, which has led both to a huge surge in construction and to high consumer spending, as people extract equity from their homes. On the other side, we have a huge trade deficit, which we cover by selling bonds to foreigners. As I like to say, these days Americans make a living by selling each other houses, paid for with money borrowed from China.

One way or another, the economy will eventually eliminate both imbalances.
